More often than not, skilled laborers need to catch a break in the trade industry before they officially find a home. And for some potential workers, searching, applying, and interviewing for trade jobs can be daunting and intimidating. Bituminous Roadways, Inc. is here to help!

Understanding what skilled labor employers look for in applicants and comprehending all the benefits this industry offers can provide the necessary confidence and motivation to seek employment in a field that’s always looking for devoted candidates.

So let us guide you!

BR is a leader in asphalt pavement production, construction, and maintenance. From roadway construction companies to asphalt repair projects, there are ample job opportunities in our industry, along with many advantages of being employed in the trades.

Why Consider Working in the Trades?

With little to no experience, you can build a secure and promising future! Working in the trades means gaining lifelong experience and stability that will help you flourish in your career and personal life.

If you’re searching for a job field that’s seemingly always looking for workers, then looking into the skilled trades industry is an absolute must.

Abundant Job Availability

According to the Associated General Contractors of America, an estimated 75% of construction companies throughout the country are generally struggling to find and employ qualified workers.

In addition to the constant demand for employees, there’s a specific need for younger laborers. Reports indicate that workers aged 45 to 54 account for nearly one-third of the skilled trades workforce.

During a time when unemployment in the U.S. is typically hovering around 6-7%, there is essentially constant employment demand within the skilled trades field.

Immediate Experience With Minimal Requirements

No matter your background or knowledge of work, the skilled trades industry tends to require the least amount of experience or education necessary to obtain employment. For starters, very seldom, if ever, will you find skilled laborer employers requiring a college education for applicants, which means you can find a job without having to put tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debt.

If you are curious about education within the trades industry, trade school is an extremely affordable form of education that will enlighten you about all the skills and expectations associated with the field. On average, a public, two-year trade school degree costs less than $4,000

If the classroom isn’t your preferred setting, many companies look for apprentices, essentially the equivalent of internships within the skilled trades industry. Getting your foot in the door any way you can will provide you with the appropriate experience needed for most skilled trade jobs.

Financial Stability

Perhaps the most significant benefit of working in the trades is receiving compensation for the job itself. According to U.S. News & World Report, nearly half of the top-paying jobs that don’t require a college degree are within the skilled trades industry.

The average skilled laborer earns around $32,000 annually in the U.S. That figure only climbs with the more experience and the longer you work within the industry. The average earnings also represent non-union wages. BR is a union contractor with higher paying union scale wages, PLUS fringe benefits!

When you compare that salary to the 21 years, on average, it takes to ultimately pay off student loans, the return on investment only looks more appetizing!

Strapping Job Security

At the end of the day, skilled trades employers need actual people on the ground to get their work done. Whether it’s employing people from overseas or technological intervention, it’s estimated that more than 300,000 U.S. jobs are outsourced yearly.

However, that number practically excludes any involvement from the trades industry. The need for workers in the trades remains as high as ever.

Once you’ve settled into this field, the sky's the limit regarding where the skilled trades industry can take you!
