MAPA Parking Lot Award 2023
Bituminous Roadways, Inc. (BR) recently accepted the 2023 Commercial Parking Lot Paving Excellence Award from The Minnesota Asphalt Paving Association (MAPA) during their annual asphalt conference and trade show held at Mystic Lake Event Center.
The winning project, FedEx in Rosemount, Minn., was the largest parking lot paving project to ever be completed in BR’s 77-year history. R.J. Ryan Construction hired BR in August of 2022 to complete the new construction paving project, which also included installing and grading 125,000 tons of aggregate.
“This project was a complete team effort,” said Kent Peterson, President of Bituminous Roadways. “Our grading crews worked long hours to install the aggregate while our scale operators were busy weighing the trucks transporting the rock. In August, our grading and paving crews worked together to coordinate a massive area for completion. Our team graded just shy of 60,000 square yards of an area in preparation for our paving crews to install more than 21,500 tons of asphalt.”
In total, the paving project resulted in more than 60,000 tons of asphalt installed over the course of a 2-year period. This equates to 22 miles of dump trucks loaded single file!
The MAPA Commercial Parking Lot Paving Excellence Awards are an opportunity for the industry to recognize successful projects throughout Minnesota. Nominations are submitted and graded based on criteria such as rideability, joins, general appearance, complexity of the project, and design compliance.
CHASE Award 2023
The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Minnesota awarded Bituminous Roadways, Inc. with the Construction Health and Safety Excellence (CHASE) award on Wednesday, November 8, during the 20-Year CHASE Recognition Event at the Ames Center in Burnsville, Minn.
“We are proud of our safety program and the partnership between Bituminous Roadways and the AGC,” said Kent Peterson, President of Bituminous Roadways. “Our long-standing membership with the AGC spans 55 years, with our involvement in the CHASE program dating back to 2004.”
The CHASE program was developed in 2003 as a partnership between the AGC of Minnesota and the Minnesota OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration). It is designed to recognize AGC contractor members for their safety programs and performance while providing certain incentives for partnership.
Currently, Bituminous Roadways is a CHASE Level 2 participant, defined as a member desiring recognition for having a more comprehensive safety program.
