Thinking about applying to work with us as a estimator/project manager? Then it’s not a bad idea to familiarize yourself with what this particular position typically entails. At Bituminous Roadways, each estimator/ project manager specializes in a specific category of asphalt paving. Because each type of project has unique requirements that necessitate a specialized skill set, we have professionals assigned to four separate areas.

Below, we’re breaking down the different types of estimators/project managers we hire, what they do, and how they contribute to the overall success of our projects and business as a whole. Take a look and get to know us a little better!

4 Types of Estimators/Project Managers at BR

At Bituminous Roadways, our estimators/project managers work in the following four areas:

Street Projects

Street estimators work mainly on low-bid, city, county, and state projects, along with land developers and work from predefined plans and specifications.

Private Projects

Private estimators work with property managers, facility managers, homeowners associations, business owners, and owners of other private organizations. They bid on several types of asphalt projects comprised mostly of routine maintenance work, such as cracksealing, mill and overlays, pothole repair, sealcoating, etc., depending on the scope of the project.

Within our private estimating/maintenance department, we have four territories: northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast. Each territory has one assigned estimator, and we also have what we call “floater” estimators who do not have a defined territory but help out wherever they’re needed.

Specialty Projects

Specialty estimators work with schools, churches, outdoor athletic facility owners/managers, and large-scale private organization owners. Because outdoor athletic surfaces, such as tennis courts, running tracks and trails have very specific paving requirements, we need estimators who understand those nuances.

General Contracting Projects

General contracting estimators work with General Contractors on new asphalt installation projects including industrial, commercial, warehouse, retail, apartment complexes and more. ,. They often work with other types of companies as well.

Types of Projects We Bid/Work On

At Bituminous Roadways, we work on a broad range of projects from simple sweep-and-stripe maintenance projects to patching, cracksealing, mill & overlay and sealcoating. We also bid and work on complete asphalt removal, replacement, and expansions for parking lots, as well as several other types of new asphalt installation and maintenance projects.

As for our clients, we work extensively with facility managers and engineers, property managers, HOAs, and real estate firms, as well as property and facility owners.
