While 2020 has brought significant challenges to companies across the globe, one local non-profit organization is trying to make the world a better place for kids with physical disabilities.  Hope Fieldhouse broke ground in 2019 and started operating in 2020.  It is a premier fitness facility with four gymnasiums, a fitness center, walking/running track, locker rooms and a café.

Hope Fieldhouse is located in Rosemount and provides an opportunity for youth with disabilities to experience fitness programming in a quality athletic facility.  They do this by putting membership dollars back into the community to support local youth and adaptive sports organizations. Hope Fieldhouse is home to The Dakota United Hawks, an adaptive sports organization.

During a fundraising campaign, Bituminous Roadways, Inc. was approached by Hope Fieldhouse to assist in completing their facility by installing the parking lot through a donation. However, you can’t just pave a parking lot without getting the area prepped and ready. The rock used to grade the parking lot was donated by Aggregate Industries, long time aggregate supplier for BR. Once the rock was in place, BR’s grading team used GPS technology to ensure the grading was done to specifications that allow for appropriate drainage.

Once the grading was complete, the paving crew arrived and installed approximately 860 tons of asphalt, paving the base course of the parking lot. This means, another “lift” or “layer” of asphalt will be paved later.

“Hopefield House couldn’t be more pleased with our parking lot,” said Josh Schoaf, Director of Business Development for Hopefield House. He added, “We are so thankful for the donation from BR so we can help kids with special needs and all kids in the community by giving them a place to play.”

In total, BR donated approximately $30,000 in labor and materials to build the parking lot for Hope Fieldhouse. This will allow Hope Fieldhouse to focus more on their mission, which is to enhance and enrich the lives of children and their families within the community by providing a quality athletic facility that is purposeful, safe, and fun.

Project Fun Facts:

  • When the project is finished next year, BR will have paved nearly 1,500 tons of asphalt.
  • 3,500 ton of Class 5 aggregate was hauled to the site.
  • 386 parking stalls are available at the parking lot for Hope Fieldhouse.
