CHASE Program

The Construction Health and Safety Excellence (CHASE) program began in 2003 as a partnership between the Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MN OSHA) and the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Minnesota. The program is designed to recognize AGC member contractors for their safety programs and performance. Bituminous Roadways (BR) was the third overall construction company to join the CHASE program in 2004. Just this year, BR became the first ever “Asphalt Contractor” to achieve CHASE Level 3 status.

What does America Recycles Day and asphalt have in common?

America Recycles Day is scheduled for November 15, 2019. On this day, people will organize events to help educate people on recycling many different household items. However, BR has played an important role in recycling something you can’t find in your home, but what you drive on. Since the early 1970’s, BR has been incorporating recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) into newly produced asphalt mixtures. When mixed with recycled asphalt, the new mixtures can be as high, or even higher, in quality as pavements made of virgin materials. When you look at it this way, it never loses its value. This sustainability practice has many economic, environmental and societal impacts.

Whether it’s Short or Long Term Projects, BR Will Be Your Pavement Partner: A Case Study

In 2016, BR submitted an asphalt paving bid for the Minnesota Vikings TCO Performance Center via an electronic request for proposal to Kraus-Anderson, the project’s general contractor. Once awarded the project, BR didn’t actually start installing asphalt until mid-year, 2017, nearly a year from the original bid date. Other subcontractors were on the docket first, to complete portions of the project prior to BR installing any asphalt.

Going Back to School was No Challenge for Bituminous Roadways

The 16-year-old, 10,100 sq.yd. parking lot was in desperate need of reconstruction with visible cracking throughout the area. The company was also challenged with bringing the lot up to 2017 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
