Superintendent Duties & Responsibilities at BR

Typically, a superintendent candidate would have five years of experience in the perspective areas of expertise as well as the knowledge to repair equipment on their job sites. Management experience or a history of participating in management classes is also important, as the superintendent is managing people and projects.

Finally, they must have operator experience and an understanding of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) procedures.

Interviews, Hiring & Training

Review potential candidate applications for crew members and coordinate with our HR department to schedule interviews, hire candidates, and train incoming employees.

People & Project Management

Manage operation schedules in respective areas daily, weekly, and long-term.

Communicate regularly with internal individuals such as BR foremen, estimators, and other superintendents, and the operations manager as well as external customers on project scheduling status.

Participate in a weekly scheduling meeting where projects are discussed and all field personnel review schedules.

Communication & Safety Standards

Ensure the safety of the job site and that all crew members meet BR standards.

Mentor less experienced employees daily to help build our crew members' experience and teach them new skills.

Effectively communicate any information to the general public who may be affected by the project we’re completing.

Superintendents at BR: This Is Seasonal Work

Because BR is primarily an asphalt paving contractor and our work can only be performed when the temperatures are warmer, our superintendents work seasonally, from March through November.

Our work is primarily spread throughout the 7-county metro area, meaning employees are going home at the end of the night to their families.
