Employee Referral

Employee Referral Program

Effective February 1, 2020, the Employee Referral Program will provide a referral award to a current employee who brings new talent to the company by referring applicants who are selected and successfully employed.

Why an Employee Referral Program?

An employee referral program is a structured, organized way for current employees to recommend favorable candidates to open positions within our company. Referral programs can be more effective than other methods like job boards and recruiters at finding a candidate that truly FITS the company culture. Who knows that better than YOU?

Please keep in mind that getting referred does not guarantee the candidate a position or an interview. You know what our culture is like and what we promote through our core values. With that said, we expect you to hold some high standards for those you are considering referring.

What does a “good referral” look like?

  • Having experience is highly preferred.
  • They fit the company values:
    • They have Integrity.
    • They will be a Quality, reliable and consistent employee.
    • They display Commitment and loyalty.
    • They show Respect to all.
    • They actively live by and promote Safety.
  • They are dependable and trainable.
  • They have strong communication skills.
  • They are willing and able to put in the time and hard work.
  • They have the ability to work independently and be part of a team.
  • They will be a positive representation of BR and what we stand for as a company. (Will keep our reputation strong.)

Applicants - Referred applicants cannot be current employees of BR in any capacity (i.e., temporary, interns, project, or contract employees.)

Referring Employee Eligibility - All employees in regular, full-time, or part-time positions are eligible to receive a referral award except for the following positions:

  • President/CEO
  • Vice-President
  • CFO
  • Materials Manager
  • Senior Estimating Manager
  • Operations Manager
  • HR Manager

Incentive Award Amount – A referral award will be paid out to any employee that refers an applicant who is selected and successfully hired for an open position at BR. The referring employee must be employed at time to receive any incentive awards. All awards paid under this program are subject to tax withholding. Awards are paid if the applicant is hired within 6 months from the referral date.

Referral Awards will be paid as follows:

  • $1,500 will be paid out to the referring employee the pay period following the applicant’s 90-days-worked point.
  • An additional $1,500 will be paid out to the referring employee if/when their referral comes back for the following season.
    • If the 90-days-worked point for the hire is not hit by the end of the season, that will then carry into the next season.
    • Both awards are subject to tax withholdings.

**Referral Process – This program is driven by the employee, not by the applicant. To qualify for the referral award, the Employee must fill out an Employee Referral Form. The referral form must be submitted prior to any other receipt of the resume or application to Human Resources.

Make it be known that there must be some level of familiarity with this person prior to the employee referring them.

  • The referral form asks for specific information on how you know the person.
  • Candidates that are met at any BR event, etc. do not count, nor can you ask someone you meet to simply put your name down as a referral.
    • Having applicants list your name on their application will not qualify you for the Employee Referral Program. Again, this process is driven by the employee and the submittal of the Employee Referral Form.
  • This process will be closely monitored and verified. Anyone attempting to falsify information or take advantage of this process will be disqualified from this program and subject to further discipline.

Referral Bonus Eligibility Criteria - No referral awards are paid for referrals of candidates who are retirees, rehires, or persons returning from a leave of absence. To be eligible for the referral awards described above, both employees must be in good standing with BR.

BR reserves the right to deny award payments to any employee who improperly makes promises or assurances of employment to prospective or actual candidates, or otherwise engages in improper or inappropriate conduct related to this program or other workplace activities. The terms of this program are subject to review and revision.
