Mike Knapp Named Manager of BR’s New Pavement Maintenance Team
Consistent with our mission of being a preferred provider of pavement solutions, we created a team in February devoted exclusively towards Pavement Maintenance, and Mike Knapp has been named the manager.
“Our focus had been all about knowing about pavements – whether new construction or maintenance,” says Knapp. “With so many new products coming on the market we were having difficulty keeping up with product options.”
Mike Knapp has been with Bituminous Roadways since 1987, with the exception of a 2-year stint as an operator for an excavation contractor. Mike returned to BR because of its people, he says. “I loved the people I worked with and missed being a part of it,” he said. Prior to this appointment, Mike has been an estimator/project manager, sealcoat crew foreman, and heavy equipment operator with BR.
Soon after his appointment, Mike and fellow sales estimators along with Operations Manager Randy Kramer went to the National Pavement Expo in Memphis to seek the latest in pavement maintenance products. “We made many contacts and got some good ideas,” stated Knapp. “We’re trying products and recently signed an exclusive with one manufacturer.”
Knapp’s first move was to name Mark Rogers and Bill Healy as his sales estimators. Rogers has been with BR since 1994 as a sales estimator. Healy, in his 12th year with BR, was promoted to sales estimator having been an operator on a pave crew for six years, and on a patch crew also for six years. “Mark and Bill are very credible, have good experience, and are customer-focused,” said Knapp. “I’m pleased to have them on board.”
This self-sufficient division offers pavement repairs, crack-sealing, and sealcoat treatments, both preventative and reactive. Knapp emphasized, “Our goal is to offer our customers the best maintenance solutions regardless of what life cycle the pavement is currently in.”
This team was created to allow us to gain a clear and distinct connection with the expanding options available in the pavement maintenance toolbox. The goal is to provide best alternatives for matching present condition, customer’s needs and available options.
