Yesterday we attended a meeting with the Minnesota Transportation Alliance ( http://www.transportationalliance.com/ ) regarding the potential “shut-down” of our state government on July 1st.
A statewide shutdown of our government would be costly to taxpayers; it would not save money as many people tend to believe. One person claimed a State office declared the price tag on a shutdown would begin at $240 million.
BR relies on state and federal funds for a fair amount of our work. While we would be able to survive such a shutdown, our roads might not. Minnesota’s roads are already stressed from years of insufficient funding. Temporarily stopping road projects would have a ripple effect on the quality of transportation in Minnesota for years to come.
